The US Army has helped to advance the progress of diversity and integration for the whole nation over the centuries. Historically, it was the first government institution to integrate racial minorities, women and people of various nationalities into its workforce at almost every level of the establishment, eventually.
September 2013 marks the launch of the National Diversity Councils national LGBT initiative, the LGBTA Council. The LGBTA Council will serve as a resource for allies and corporate executives to gain insights and best practices for building an inclusive workplace.

As LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people become much more visible and mainstream, it is critical that companies and organizations that currently do not include LGBT in their diversity mix quickly re-evaluate their diversity strategy and programs. This article will review the quickly changing LGBT landscape, the compelling rationale for LGBT diversity, a quantitative justification methodology, and a summary of the various programs that can be executed to implement LGBT diversity.
Last month thousands of people went to D.C. to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King Junior delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. This first march focused on civil and economic rights for African Americans and has been credited with advancing the passage of both the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.
Approximately 140 business professionals were in attendance at the Carolinas LGBTA Summit on June 6 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC. This summit helped empower members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and allies communities through a series of panel discussions consisting of topics with valuable insights to benefit their personal and professional growth.
